Yeah, so I’m a geek. But when I’m not coding in mod_perl or hacking on some C, I like to listen to music, preferably in a dimly lit place where I can consume aqueous ethanol solutions. Possibly becuase of the mathematical or synthetic nature of (techno|industrial|ambient|electronica|goth|down-beat|et al.), I’m drawn to that sort of place (plus I like hot gothy chicks ;^) ).
Unfortunately, there seems to be a dearth of clubs like that around here, with the only one I know about being Atomic-Cafe. I know there are lots of other people like me out in Austin, so there can’t be just the one good (or semi-good, depending on the DJ) place for such music. What’s good out in Austin for (dark && loud)?
Heh. If you’re like me and derive a certain sadistic pleasure from watching ill-conceived e-Biz startups get e-Screwed, you’ll love this site, all the moreso if you’re familiar with the logo of every CFOs’ favorite mindless-internet-boosterism rag, Fast Company…
Bonus points if you can find all the Austin-based companies that have had the “distinction” of appearing on this site…
CNET Investor has a Bloomberg article on Dr. Koop laying off some more people. Firing some people helped raise the stock 6 cents. This article cites “losing money” as a reason for 41 layoffs. And with such an excellent product, DrKoop.com wasn’t able to turn a profit ;-p. Anyway, DrKoop.com says they recently got 27.5 million.
The same story with more info is on Austin Business Journal.
