So whurley and I had lunch Saturday, and then a phone meeting Sunday, and this morning I get a note from Rich Vazquez that whurley and Mando will be speaking about the rebirth of openSIMS at the Austin OWASP meeting tomorrow at Whole Foods. Shame on whurley. He completely forgot to tell me. Here are the details:
Event: The rebirth of openSIMS
Host: OWASP
Start Time: Tomorrow, July 29 at 11:30am
End Time: Tomorrow, July 29 at 1:00pm
Where: Whole Foods (downtown)
Additional details and RSVP can be found on the Facebook page.
Imagine being able to integrate Nmap, Snort, Nagios, and Nessus into a common event correlation framework. mmmm, power. openSIMS (project page) provides a way for tying together the open source tools used for security management into a common infrastructure with a real-time RIA for a new kind of analysis and visualization of enterprise network security.
For those of you unfamiliar with OWASP, here is a brief description from Rich Vazquez:
The Open Web Application Security Project (OWASP) is a worldwide free and open community focused on improving the security of application software. Our mission is to make application security “visible,” so that people and organizations can make informed decisions about application security risks.
Austin OWASP began having monthly meetings in August of 2006. Members and speakers vary from security researchers to web application project managers and developers. Everyone is free to participate in OWASP and all of our materials are available under a free and open software license.
