GeekAustin Drupal Theming Study Group
Ever since I mentioned, back in March, that GeekAustin would be hosting a Drupal Theming Study Group, people have been asking me every week: "When does it start?"
We finally have a date. The Drupal Theming Study Group will begin on Monday August 2, at Cospace. We will meet thereafter (usually) on the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month. These are the first four dates:
Monday, August 2
Monday, August 16
Monday, August 30
Monday, September 20
No prior knowledge of Drupal theming is required. However, you should have some experience with Drupal and a basic knowledge of HTML and CSS. You should also have a laptop with Drupal installed, or access to a live site to use for practice. The group will start from the very beginning. We will learn both how to modify an existing theme (by creating a sub-theme) and also how to build a theme from scratch.
We'll begin each session with a systematic review of the particulars of Drupal theming. Each session will build on the previous. Beyond that, we'll design the format as we go. Because most people learn best by actively participating, there will be opportunities to participate in different group projects.
We'll also have guest appearances by local theming experts such as Todd Nienkirk, Nick Lewis, and everyone else whose arms I've twisted into pitching in.
Although it is not necessary to purchase any books or videos for this group, the following materials will be used as reference
Front End Drupal (Safari) (Amazon)
Drupal 6 Themes (Amazon) (Safari)
Drupal.org Theming Guide
Lullabot Theming and Advanced Theming
and other assorted web and video tutorials.
We will be charging five dollars per meeting to cover the use of Cospace.
You can sign up for the group at Eventbrite:

I got so excited when I heard about this study group and then found out it's on Mondays. Any chance of changing the day? or starting another group? Thanks!
I just bought my tickets on the eventbrite link. Drupal themeing -- actually, any front end appearence type stuff -- has always been my weak point. I'm really looking forward to this. I'll be bringing my copy of "Front End Drupal" to the meetings.
i would really love to meet people who are interested in drupal theming and study with them! Bruce
