Senior Java Engineer

This position will focus on design and implementation of the middle and data tier of a web application that offers exposure to the very latest in Web 2.0 technologies. We work in a best-of-breed environment that includes a mix of Java (JSP/Spring/Hibernate), .Net 2.0 and Ruby on Rails applications. We are looking for a strong Java developer, to join a team building out and enhancing our flagship product which currently serves over 1000 customers. Exposure to Ruby on Rails and .Net is a strong plus. We look for engineers who have an in-depth understanding the foundations of the technologies they use and can make the conceptual leap from one technology to the other with relative ease.
 

Our ideal candidate is a software engineer with a solid computer science foundation, an analytical mind with good communication skills, meticulous software engineering discipline and the ability to demonstrate rigor and strength in object oriented design and analysis. You must have at least 6 years of experience delivering production quality enterprise software, and a minimum of 7 years of overall development experience.

A significant portion of your responsibility in this role will consist of making targeted enhancements, performance improvements and other optimizations to a production product based on active customer feedback and so we require that you possess the temperament to enthusiastically participate in a customer focused continuous improvement process cycle. As well, you must be comfortable operating within the constraints of existing product architectures and be willing and able to ramp up on a domain and existing code base and demonstrate care and diligence in designing and implementing enhancements that do not introduce regressions. A demonstrated and disciplined approach to testing and facility with test driven development is required.

The ideal team member will be motivated and willing to learn about a new business domain and be willing to explore new technologies and trends; must be comfortable sharing knowledge and suggesting ways to continually improve engineering practices.
The following are required:
• Expert knowledge of the Java language including latest language features.
• JSP/Struts/JSTL
• Spring 2.0 and Hibernate
• Web Service development with Axis 2.0 and/or XFire
• Database development on SQL2005
• Object oriented design skills and the ability to communicate design intent outside code
• Algorithm design skills and test driven development
• SQL, Databases, Transaction processing concepts and ORM frameworks
• XML Document Processing and Web Services
Exposure and/or skills in the following are highly desirable.
• Ruby on Rails
• .Net 2.0
The candidate should have
• Minimum of 6 years building production quality web applications. 7 or more total years of software development experience are expected.
• An undergraduate degree or higher in Computer Science
• Good estimation skills and the ability to meet tight deadlines while working in a fast paced environment
