GeekAustin Beginning PHP Study Group
Austin has a great PHP community. Every month, Josh Butts organizes top notch presentations for the Austin PHP Meetup. If you're already involved in PHP, you need to be a part of this group.
Quite a few people have come to me, and some of the other GA folks, asking us to put something together to help them get started with PHP -- and hopefully get them to the level where they could start using it in their job, use it to get a better job, or even just get to the level where they could follow what's going on at the monthly PHP meetup.
GeekAustin is organizing a Beginning PHP study group.
The PHP study group is geared toward beginners. We will start by covering basic topics:
1) Data Types - Strings, Numbers, Date / Time
2) Variables
3) Functions
4) Arrays
5) Objects
6) Database Access
None of this is rocket science. You can learn it on your own at home. However...
By learning in a group environment, you'll have other people who can field your questions, and you'll get to see the language from multiple perspectives. By meeting with the group on a regular basis (twice a month), you'll be committing a specific time to develop a new skill.
The GeekAustin PHP study group will meet on the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month. The first meeting will be on June 28. During the first session, we'll decide what books/resources we'll use.
GeekAustin is organizing this group as a community service. There is no charge to attend.
You can register for the study group at eventbrite:
